A rewarding smile

by Harko 16. December 2008 17:54

Here she is, almost 3 months already. We did our check at the 'consultatieburo' yesterday. They checked Nadia and stuck 2 needles in her. Crying off course. She's a great girl so she got past that quite soon. Took a nap and forgot about it. Every day she's growing up so fast and learning new tricks again. She has been smiling for some time now but today she started adding sound to it :)
Waking up, waking Nadia up and getting a smile just when she wakes up is really worth it. And yes, you read right. she wakes up after we do quite often.... setting the record now at sleeping for 9.5 hours.

We also found out she likes the tv a lot, just yesterday she was watching MI:III with me, although mama doesn't approve. We will also be switching partly to powder/packaged milk as Jessica and Nadia are leaving for Hong Kong on January 6th. I'll follow them on January 17th with my mom and we will spend some time in China and Hong Kong again. See grandpa and grandma, the rest of the family etc..

Nadia is born

by Harko 19. September 2008 16:52

It's been a couple of busy days.

Last wednesday at 2.15 am Jessica woke me up to tell me her water broke. After a few minutes I actually realised what she meant :) We called the midwife who agreed on the water breaking. She left around 3 am telling us to wait for the contractions and call her at 8.30 in the morning to check how things are going.
About an hour later contractions started already and the interval was getting shorter every time. We called again at 5, than again at 5.15. At 5.30 we arrived in the 'labour hotel' where things sped up even more. After some hours of horrible pains our little girl was born. Weighing in at 4145 grams not really little though :D

Off course we thought of a name before, we named her Nadia Lotus, using my last name Prinssen.

Jessica and Nadia spent one day in the hospital, than the 3 of us stayed in the 'labour hotel'. We went back home today. Up till now Nadia is fine with everythng, she sleeps almost the entire day. Hopefully it can stay that way.... Time will tell..

To give you an idea of how beautiful she actually is, here's some pics

Our babies heartbeat

by Harko 31. March 2008 15:49

The anouncement of having a baby has been on top long enough now. For the people who didn't get the hint, we are having a baby. 2 Weeks ago we bought a baby heartbeat monitor to listen to the babies heartbeat. I was a little sceptic, but it works very nice actually. I recommend using a different headphone than the one that cam with it. As the device has a line output I connected it to my laptop yesterday to record the sound. It's a little distorted, but otherwise you wouldn't be able to hear anything. After some improvements this is the best I could get out of it.

It's short and sounds like a bad house track, but you can actually hear the heartbeat.

About to be...

by Harko 19. March 2008 12:19

So let's see how many people actally read the blog :)
About 2 months ago we found out Jessica is pregnant with our first child. when she came here last sunday the foetus was about 13 weeks old. The echo is when the foetus was 11 - 12 weeks. Really exciting news and we are preparing to be parents, which should happen somewhere in September. Yesterday we picked up a heartbeat monitor and we were actually able to hear the babys heartbeat, after some trial and error. 50 euros is not cheap, but a nice way to get a little more involved as the main job is for Jessica now. Today we went to the city hall to notify them of Jessicas arrival and to acknowledge the unborn baby. The baby will bear my last name and we will be able to get his/her own passport.
Don't ask me whether it will be a boy or a girl, I don't know and won't know until it's born. Need to start thinking of names and prepare the room.

CX271 Coming in from Hong Kong

by Harko 15. March 2008 17:28

The wait is almost over. Jessica is on the plane for about 5 hours now. another 8 and she'll get off the plane. Offcourse I'm picking her up from Schiphol Airport. Need to get up early for that (around 5 AM). BUT, it's all worth it, finally we have control over how/what/where/when instead of employers, governments and embassies. This week we apply all necessary papers to finalize Jessica staying here.

Spring weather = roof down

by Harko 15. March 2008 11:42

For the first time this year the weather allowed me to put the roof down. Around 18 degrees and a nice sunshine, I did use the windblocker as that makes so much of a difference. My car is 2004 2.0 litre 136hp Peugeot 307cc. I bought it after I sold my turbocharged 2000 Toyota Celica. The picture is from last year, but the car still looks the same. I love the metal folding roof as it gives me the option of having a 'normal' car or a convertible without the cons of a folding roof.

If everything works as it should you should see my gamertag on top of this post. I found this extension looking around the web. Even though I hardly play my 360 nowadays I'm showing it here anyway. You can add me to your friends list, but let me know who you are, it's not always clear from the nickname :)

Barcelona by night as seen from mount Tibidabo

by Harko 11. March 2008 18:18

Last year we went to Barcelona by car. Very nice drive through France (too bad the french live there, beautiful country though). Barcelona itself is great, good atmosphere, delicious food and very nice to drive with the roof down. Found an affordable hotel about 20km from there.
We drove to the top of mount Tibidabo and watched the fireworks they were lighting because of the music festical SEC. The "amusement park" was closed when we arrived, but nonetheless the view was amazing. Took 5 pictures from left to right and now I finally got around to using a piece of panorama-software to make the panorama picture. Behold the result.
